Fender Custom Shop and Toyota Debut the Tundra Hot Rod

The Fender Custom Shop and Toyota debuted the Toyota Tundra Hot Rod today in Las Vegas at the SEMA Show, the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world.

Inspired by the growing popularity of retro/old school hot rods in the aftermarket world, Toyota built the Tundra Hot Rod, which takes a fun look at what a Toyota Tundra pickup truck might have looked like if it had been part of the iconic 1950s and ‘60s hot rod era.

Toyota provided Phoenix-based project partner Sucker Punch Sally’s with a flat black Tundra Regular Cab 4×2 for the hot rod conversion.

The exterior received candy red flames, whitewall tires with baby moon hubcaps and a surfboard carrier that extends from the towing hitch receiver.  The truck bed is a polished wood floor, using the Fender Custom Shop’s finest flamed maple.

The interior also received old-school treatment with the installation of a tuck ‘n’ roll bench seat. The Tundra Hot Rod also features Fender Guitar custom radio knobs, tachometer and gauges.

The Tundra Hot Rod will be on display at more than 55 various consumer events over the next year.

For a another glimpse of the new ride, here’s a shot of Fender Custom Shop director Mike Eldred and Fender Electric Guitars marketing manager Justin Norvell at SEMA, posing with the Tundra Hot Rod.

Eldred and Norvell also provided some live entertainment today, playing Fender electric guitars plugged into amps that filled the Tundra Hot Rod’s truck bed.
