Thenewno2 on Tour Now

harrisongall.jpg

Thenewno2 began their fall tour with Wolfmother on Thursday night at the House of Blues in Dallas, Texas.  Tonight, they’ll take the stage at Stubbs Bar-B-Q in Austin, Texas, one of the shows that singer/guitarist Dhani Harrison told Fender News he’s particularly looking forward to playing.

“I love Austin,” he said. “The Wiltern in Los Angeles (Nov. 24) will be fun because that’s homecoming. We play in Boston too, which will be great because my friends at Harmonix will be there. I’m just looking forward to playing new places and seeing how it goes.”

Thenewno2’s debut album You Are Here hit stores in March 2009. The entire album was written, produced and performed by Harrison and Oliver Hicks. Hicks however, is not touring this fall since he’s currently busy doing some film work.

“We have a good friend of ours from our sort of brother band, Frank Zummo who is a lovely, lovely guy and he’s standing in for Oli,” explained Harrison. “There’s been so many different people in the band, but it’s not like Oli is one of those people who has just come through the band for awhile. Oli and I planned the design together and the company thenewno2 is very much–we’re like yin and yang. He’s very much the heart of it as well. He will no doubt return for the next album.”

Michael Schulz of our artist relations team spent some time in Los Angeles with thenewno2 during rehearsals. Here’s a few of his photos:

The Rob Zombie tour kicked off last night with a show in Phoenix, Ariz., at the Dodge Theater, marking Zombie’s first headline tour since 2007.

The “Hellbilly Deluxe 2” tour next storms Vegas for tonight’s show at the Palms Concert Theater, followed by a special Halloween event on Saturday night in Log Angeles at the Hollywood Palladium.

“It is going to be really fun,” said Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 about the Halloween celebration. “I think that it will be a blast. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and what better person to spend it with than Rob Zombie.”

Zombie’s fourth solo studio album Hellbilly Deluxe 2, expected out on Nov. 17, has reportedly been pushed back. Zombie told Billboard.com during a conference call that he felt “the basic structure of releasing a record” was not adequately in place for the project. Read more!

‘Launch’ with Cobra Starship and A Rocket to the Moon

Photo credit: a RA busboy gracious enough to snap a few photos of us.

Fender joined our friends from A Rocket to the Moon and Cobra Starship (guitarist Ryland Blackinton and bassist Alex Suarez) on Wednesday afternoon to crush some sushi at Scottsdale’s RA, where coincidentally the menu includes a dish called Hot Mess–crispy rice balls topped with a spicy King crab mix, baked and finished with jalapeno & cilantro.

Subsequently, a RA menu is now sitting shotgun on the Cobra Starship tour bus.

“I had to grab this because people are constantly using our likeness and trying to make a couple of dimes off of it,” explains Blackinton. “In this case, they’ve named a dish a Hot Mess. It doesn’t even sound that hot or messy.”

Cobra Starship’s “Hot Mess” video will debut on Nov. 8 during the MTV premiere of Styl’d. The tune has been chosen as the theme song for the new show. (After sushi, Fender Vision filmed some of Cobra Starship’s tour bus where frontman Gabe Saporta and keytarist Victoria Asher were discussing some revisions to the video. Sounds as if it’s coming together well.)

A Rocket to the Moon recently released their full-length debut On Your Side, an infectious collection of upbeat pop music that is available for 9.99 at Target. Stay tuned for a Fender Vision video of their acoustic performance of single “Mr. Right.”

Here’s a photo taken after the performance. Justin Richards played a Tim Armstrong Hellcat Acoustic, Nick Santino played a CD140SCE and bassist Eric Halvorsen played a Kingman™ Bass SCE. And that’s drummer Andrew Cook in the back.

But one of the best things about hanging out with a bunch of talented musicians is that they are ALWAYS busting out in song. We didn’t have the cameras rolling for Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” or Better than Ezra’s “Good” lunchtime sing-along, but during a crowded van ride back to the venue, Fender Vision captured impromptu versions of Billy Joel’s “The Longest Time,” and Hall and Oates’ “You Make My Dreams Come True” and “Rich Girl.” Once again, stay tuned for the video, and in the meantime, here’s a photo from the ride…

Both bands, along with The Maine and VersaEmerge, played the Marquee Theatre last night in Tempe. Here’s a few shots from the show.

Oh, and to resolve a lingering question for Nick:  VOSS sparkling water ingredients include Artesian Water, Carbon Dioxide, and Sodium Bicarbonate. So yes, you were correct. Despite the fact that violent shaking did not create an explosion, VOSS sparkling water is lightly carbonated.
