As you may have heard at www.fender.com/makehistory , we rebuilt the new American Standard instruments from the ground up…Two guitars from the same wood, testing specs one at a time. Here’s a (blurry cameraphone) pic of one of the ‘mules’ when we were testing bridge saddles…one tone-test of many….

Experimentation.
Whoops … here’s one last straggler from Frontline Live at the NAMM Show ‘08 that we just have to share … it’s some footage of soon-to-be Fender signature artist Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins stopping by the booth. In the course of his visit he signed autographs for an all-out horde of fans; he was reunited with one fan who indicated that her daughter appears on the album cover of the band’s breakthrough release, Siamese Dream; and he met and conversed with Fender’s CEO Bill Mendello and Electric Guitars Marketing Manager Justin Norvell about the success of his new relationship with Fender. Here are a few snippets of the visit:
(Bio info: as leader of seminal indie/alt rock institution Smashing Pumpkins for two decades now, guitarist, singer and songwriter Billy Corgan pioneered a genre that fused psychedelic rock and heavy metal into a highly influential post-modern sonic phenomena.)
Even though we’re now wrapping up our Frontline Live from the NAMM Show ‘08 coverage, the good news is that this is only the beginning for this Fender Front Row™ blog. In the weeks ahead we’re going to start introducing a number of new faces here and intend to keep the blog constantly rocking with new and cool content. Stop by often, or even better yet get yourself subscribed to our RSS feed so you can ensure you won’t miss a thing!
It’s time to wrap up Fender Frontline Live 2008 from the NAMM Show ‘08! We had a blast bringing this coverage to you and want to thank you for joining us. We’d also like to extend our thanks for all of the kind e-mails and forum posts we received regarding this coverage.
As the NAMM Show and Frontline Live was wrapping up on Sunday, Dick Dale was kind enough to autograph a bunch of CDs for a number of his fans — and also the folks involved in bringing this coverage to you this year. As with everything else that happened this past weekend, we caught it on tape. Here’s some admittedly not-incredibly-interesting footage of Fender Interactive Designer Steven Crouch, Fender Interactive Designer Mike McCurry, and Fender Manager of Web Development Brad Traweek, receiving autographed CDs and 8×10s from the ever-cordial Mr. Dale. Roll the credits! :-)
This one had the audience rolling! Check out this extended aside from Dick Dale as he discusses the virtues of Macs vs. PC’s (and myriad other topics), while son Jimmy Dale patiently looks on. It all ends with a memorable performance of “Miserlou.”
