Dierks Bentley Hosts Miles & Music

bentsmall.gif

Arizona native Dierks Bentley is giving back to his hometown this Saturday by hosting the “Miles & Music for Kids” celebrity motorcycle ride and concert in Phoenix.

Bentley has held the event in Nashville for four years now, but this is the first year he’s taking his fundraiser out on the road; The Valley is the first of six communities outside of Music City that Bentley plans to stage the celebrity ride and concert.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Phoenix Children’s hospital, a Children’s Miracle Network hospital.

Joining Bentley for a post-ride jam at Tempe Marketplace will be Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, Jessi Colter and Stoney LaRue.

“Everyone gets a little mini set, and then hopefully we’ll all come out at the end to do something together,” Bentley told the Arizona Republic about the concert. “I try to keep it as down-home as possible. People can be up close, yell out requests, keep it loose and casual. It will be more acoustic, a chance to see us in a way that we usually don’t play.”

Surf Cruise Cup 2009 a Hit

peppersub.jpg

Fender is happy to report that Pepper is back on solid ground after rocking the seas during the 11th annual Surf Cruise Cup 2009 over Halloween weekend.

Although Pepper guitarist Kaleo Wassman suffered a few moments of claustrophobia, telling Fender to “Never go on a cruise ship….ever,” the overall surf cruise was a huge hit!

On top of fantastic music, killer waves and massive partying, the Mariner of the Seas cruise ship hosted several charity events to benefit the West Hollywood Lions Club Surf Charities (California Surf Museum, Surfaid International, Surfing Heritage Foundation and Life Rolls On) and the Fender Museum’s Kids Rock Free music education program.

Joining Pepper for the festivities were musicians Jonathan Blake and Dubluva, surfer Robert August of The Endless Summer fame, pro surfers Mary Osborne, Janna Irons, Kirra Shephard, Dustin Franks, surf comedian Jaz Kaner, legendary surf and music industry illustrator Roy Gonzalez.

Osborne posted a few blogs about the cruise and its revelry, along with more photos here and here.

Fender Custom Shop and Toyota Debut the Tundra Hot Rod

toyota.jpg

The Fender Custom Shop and Toyota debuted the Toyota Tundra Hot Rod today in Las Vegas at the SEMA Show, the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world.

Inspired by the growing popularity of retro/old school hot rods in the aftermarket world, Toyota built the Tundra Hot Rod, which takes a fun look at what a Toyota Tundra pickup truck might have looked like if it had been part of the iconic 1950s and ‘60s hot rod era.

Toyota provided Phoenix-based project partner Sucker Punch Sally’s with a flat black Tundra Regular Cab 4×2 for the hot rod conversion.

The exterior received candy red flames, whitewall tires with baby moon hubcaps and a surfboard carrier that extends from the towing hitch receiver.  The truck bed is a polished wood floor, using the Fender Custom Shop’s finest flamed maple.

The interior also received old-school treatment with the installation of a tuck ‘n’ roll bench seat. The Tundra Hot Rod also features Fender Guitar custom radio knobs, tachometer and gauges.

The Tundra Hot Rod will be on display at more than 55 various consumer events over the next year.

For a another glimpse of the new ride, here’s a shot of Fender Custom Shop director Mike Eldred and Fender Electric Guitars marketing manager Justin Norvell at SEMA, posing with the Tundra Hot Rod.

Eldred and Norvell also provided some live entertainment today, playing Fender electric guitars plugged into amps that filled the Tundra Hot Rod’s truck bed.
