Have a favorite memory of Bill Carson to share?  Please send it to us; we'll post each entry here as they arrive ...

Don Schwartz

I want to thank Fender and the Carson family for allowing me to do the Bill Carson signature Stratocaster®. Bill Carson was one of a kind. I will always remember his fond memories of our visits together. May he rest in peace with all the great Fender Stratocaster players in heaven.

Last year, when I bought a 1966 Stratocaster® from a local gentleman, I also got a packet of old information. One item was a letter that Bill had personally signed when responding to a sales inquiry. That one is tucked safely away. Gotta get it framed soon and hang it on the wall. For some reason, that was just as cool as getting the guitar, to me.

While I didn't get the chance to know Mr. Carson, I worked the same territory for years. His reputation was legendary. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend time with Susan, and send my heartfelt condolences.

Anyone in Nashville who knows anything has nothing but respect for what they have brought to this industry, and I regret that I didn't take advantage of my proximity to them; to learn more when I had the chance. We in the industry are all indebted to the Carsons.

I only met Bill once, when he stoped by our Store (Guitar Showcase, San Jose, Calif.).

He's someone we will all miss, as he was so full of life, and his love for music and the guitar was always at the top of the conversation.

Some of my favorite memories from over 20 years in the music industry involve Bill; some are of his one-liners and one in particular is of the jam session at the Nashville Mars Music that Jim Charne mentioned in an earlier post.

Bill, Susan and a few other Nashville musicians put together a real western swing band and were so good that time literally stood still for an hour or so and we were back in the '40s for a while. To be able to hear the Stratocaster® played as it was supposed to be was an experience I will remember for the rest of my life.

My condolences to Susan, Bill's family, his extended family at Fender and the large group of people who were fortunate enough to call him a friend.
