I found the playability to exceed my expectations. Finish on the neck is good and there isn't any dive when playing. Intonation (I had a pro setup done) is good all the way to the 20th fret. The only issue there was that my tech had to shim the neck to accomplish that along with relatively low action. The finish overall is good/very good except at the neck pocket. The pocket is not as precise or tight-fitting as my US made J-bass or P-bass or the 5 string Made-in-Mexico J-bass I once owned. So far, no neck wobble when playing but I might have more concerns if this was my primary bass and I was using it a lot. I can see where over time you might have to do a little more shimming.
The only other ding, also a finish issue, is that there's black undercoat(?) showing around the edge of the pickup hole. That of course doesn't affect playability and isn't visible unless you're looking right in at it.
My primary reason for purchase was the double bass setting and I'm reasonably pleased with what i get. I've used it through a Bassman 210/250 and a G-K MB-212 with treble and bass about 3/4 and mid about 1/2 and I like the sound I'm getting. Not sure I'd quite call it a true double bass, but it's deep and "rumbly" so I'm satisfied. I haven't used the bridge position much and so won't say much there. The mid position (tone and volume active) are more than adequate for most general purpose playing.
You could use this as your only bass, though I think it might prove a bit weak for heavy metal or serious funk. For the categories I checked, along with R&B, possibly gospel and country, you could do far worse. For for the street price, it's a terrific value and to repeat, I'm impressed with the playability of the neck and the pickup produces some very useful sounds.
