A couple of years ago I bought a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz and was completely blown away. Lightning just struck twice with Squier's latest release! Fit and finish on the Vintage Modified Precision V is excellent. The fret work is flawless, even better than my Jazz. This is my first five string and I couldn't be happier! I've tried many in the past but I was never comfortable with the string spacing. The string spacing is almost exactly the same as on my Jazz. And the sound is pure straight up P-Bass!!! The wood on the neck looks like something from the Custom Shop, beautiful flame maple! Squier just keeps on impressing me with every new release.

I got this instrument from an online dealer today. I was blown away. Finaly a Precision Bass with five strings that behaves like a normal good Precision Bass.
Took it right out of the box and to a show with a seven piece band. Did exactly what a Fender should do with a deep growling and even tone. I have lots of expensive basses but from now on this one will be my go-to 5 string bass.
Thank you Fender for a beautiful instrument.

I am a working and gigging musician and I play a variety of styles on any given day. I deem versatility and as we'll all know the Precision bass fits almost anywhere ( so does a jazz, of course). I am a long time lover of the Precision bass, but had never played a five string Precision. I have had many five strings over the years, but I ended up reselling all of them except for one Carvin B5 that has been my 5string workhorse for the past 7-8 years. A nice bass, but somehow a bit sterile sounding at times; not much character.

I decided to give the VM Precision Bass V a try on a whim and a few hundred dollars burning a hole in my wallet. I bought mine sight unseen from an online store who has an excellent reputation and I have a long relationship with. The bass I chose was 3TSunburst with maple Fretboard and the finish is just immaculate. I have even many basses for far more money with lesser quality finishes.

The bass was set up pretty decently out of the box, which is the norm from the online Music Store I always use, but do to the climate changes from Fort Wayne IN to my doorstep in NMB, SC I did have to do a couple of tweaks. The fret ends are well dressed (one of the first things I look for) and well seated. I don't notice any high frets or any need for attention there.

The bridge is a vintage style bridge with single slot saddles. I was easily able to adjust the string height with the included Allen key and the slight truss rod adjustment was a breeze. I can say that even the little improvements are well received here. The Allen key for the truss rod that came with my instrument is about twice as long on the short end as a standard Allen key which makes it MUCH easier to work into the truss rot nut with the strings still seated in the nut slots.

The tone is classic precision with the added low end of the B string. The strings are nice too and will be perfect for me when they get a bit more age on them. This has become my main bass out of 7.

This Precision V has been worth the wait

Fender design and aesthetic has always appealed to me. Squier instruments are not simply a lower-priced copy of Fender instruments; Squier instruments are their own brand with individual models and features which are similar enough to Fender products to be related to them but exclusive enough to be a unique brand.
As a Squier enthusiast, I waited years for the Precision V bass to arrive, and it is everything I hoped it would be. The split single coil gives me the P-Bass tone I expect, and the rest of the styling is classic P-Bass. The maple neck and fingerboard have a gloss finish which I have come to enjoy. Fretwork is uniform and smooth around the edges. The large barrel knobs are right in line with the chunky substance of the rest of the instrument. I have mine strung with round wound 45-130 strings at relatively high action, great for digging in hard as well as nuanced quieter playing. The bridge saddles adjust to perfect intonation across the fretboard and it stays in tune through several hours of playing.
The bass is not as heavy as I expected, so I can just keep on jammin'. The VM Precision V bass is a great purchase - I know I'm going to enjoy it for many years.
