Great Instrument

This is my first bass, so I might not know too much about how it compares with others, but I really like it. The bass feels very comfortable in my hands. I've borrowed other basses from my friends to try them out, but I've yet to find a neck that feels as good as the jazz-style neck on this instrument. The 2 pickups gives the bass versatility, which is very useful since sometimes I have to play vastly different styles of music (I personally enjoy heavy metal and hard rock, but sometimes my band want to play pop songs).

Overall, this is one of my most prized possessions, and I think it's a very good bass.

I was skeptical of a MIM instrument, but after trying several other models this one was the best choice for me. The smooth playability of the J-bass neck (+ rosewood warmth) with the look and feel of the P-bass makes this bass hard to beat. The wide range of tones you can get with the J&P bass pickups and active eq seems endlesss. I have been playing for over 25 years and this bass can handle all of the music styles you can throw at it. The craftmanship was surprisingly of high quality and a great value at this price range. Over the years I had heard negative feedback in regard to Fender MIM products - not the case with this one. One slight negative is I would have liked more options for the pickguard. I can see how the gold pickguard would turn some people off. I have grown to like it even after considering a custom replacement. You are getting a bass that has the look playability and sounds of a "high end" Fender model at what I would call a bargain price.

Smooth playing bass all around. Maple fretboard impressed me more than the rosewood.

Deluxe P-Bass Special

(5.0)
yahad on February 18, 2013
Semi-Professional Country

I bought the Deluxe P-Bass Special in Blizzard Pearl and really enjoy the looks and the features of this bass. This is a great combination of the Jazz Bass and the P-Bass. The smaller body of one, combined with the narrower neck of the other, make it very easy to handle and play. I couldn't think of any good reason to not get this bass since you get a P-Bass plus a lot more options for sound. The P-Bass pickup gives you the classic P-Bass sound, the Jazz Bass pickups give you an added dimension that I use often. You can use either the P-Bass pickup or the Jazz Bass pickup exclusively, or you can pan to any point across both pickups quickly to give you the exact sound you want depending on the number you are playing. Combine this with the tone controls and you can get about any bass sound out of this instrument that you need.
