Pawn Shop Bass VI

Model : 0143700

Players continue to praise the Pawn Shop Series for evoking the more eccentric Fender creations of the mid-'60s to mid-'70s while delivering thoroughly modern sound and quality with a wealth of various Fender elements. New for 2013, the Pawn Shop Series introduces yet another pleasingly unconventional assortment of "guitars that never were but should have been," in which new models take the stage and long-vanished classics return in modern form.

The Pawn Shop™ Bass VI marks the revamped return of a historic Fender instrument, the seldom-seen Fender Bass Guitar (also known as the Bass VI) of 1961-1975. This updated version of the baritone classic features the traditional short scale (30") and is armed with Special Design Hot Jaguar® single-coil neck and middle pickups and a powerful JZHB humbucking bridge pickup.

Other features include a "C"-shaped maple neck with 9.5"-radius rosewood fingerboard and 21 medium jumbo frets, five-way pickup switching, four-ply tortoiseshell pickguard (Three-color Sunburst and Black models) and three-ply parchment pickguard (Candy Apple Red model), two Jazz Bass® control knobs (volume, tone), vintage-style adjustable six-saddle bridge with "floating" tremolo tailpiece, and vintage-style tuners. Available in Three-color Sunburst, Black and Candy Apple Red.

We wanted, but I was expecting more

This bass / guitar marks the return of a legend, even at a very affordable price, maybe I would have preferred a third single coil, the different thicknesses of the strings seem very effective, you can do many good things with it.
negative note: the Mexican production is now no better than the squier Indonesian production, we are at the same level but with a higher cost ... the initial setup is completely unplayable, especially the pitch, it is difficult to find the pitch of E major, the bridge has little hike to the saddle.
In general it is a good product and I'm glad it is mine, it was time!

Finally an affordable Bass VI

I, like most, have been waiting for an affordable Bass VI for a long time. I really do love this bass. The fit and finish are excellent. The neck is very solid and comfortable. The fret work was probably the best I have seen out of the mexican factory. The tone of the single coils is very nice (not a huge fan of the humbucker but I don't care for humbuckers). Now there are a few negatives. I expect to do a setup on anything that is shipped to me but the setup from the factory was so terrible (unplayable actually) that it is hard to blame on shipping. This is the second Fender product that I have bought in the past year (both in their untouched factory boxes) that has suffered from this so I feel like it should be addressed. The bridge is too small to intonate properly on the low E. This can be helped by flipping the bridge upside down to put the adjustment screws near the bridge pickup. It's an easy fix for most but It really should just ship this way. The pickguard was not fully shielded and was building static when using a pick. This again is an easy fix but one that should not have to be done on a bass that's in this price range. These complaints do not really detract from the instrument over all for me as the were easy to fix but for some they could cause unnecessary trips to a tech and should really be addressed by Fender. Overall I am very pleasantly surprised by this instrument. I have waited for a long time to have an affordable Bass VI and it is proving to be a very useful addition to the stable. Hopefully it will sell well enough to warrant a more traditional model in the future.
