I've been a guitarist for more than 20 years, and this is my first fretless instrument, a gift from my in-laws. The sound is rich and pleasing, and the instrument has a great tonal range, the 'mwah' sound is just amazingly cool. The Jaco-esque (without the scars) finish is crisp and flawless. The factory set-up wasn't quite satisfying, but a trip to my guitar technician for a careful set-up allowed all of the instrument's potential come through. The only relatively minor drawback would be the bridge, but for the price, this instrument is an incredible value, and I'm not exaggerating, this is not the usual hyperbolic language. This is a truely inspiring instrument.

Great looking, great sounding bass. Wonderful tone with tapewounds or round wounds! I use this bass in a jazz band as well as in an alternative band, and that fretless "mwah" sound jumps out of this bass. My one qualm is that the bass hums, especially when the tone knob is turned up, however this can be fixed by shielding the bass' cavity. For this money, you'd struggle to find such a good bass.
Excellente basse fretless, pour un prix défiant toute concurrence
Un beau son Fender ... sauf si on cherche à jouer aigu sur la corde de mi grave, ça miaule ... mais bon, ce n'est pas une Pastorius ...

I've been playing over 35 years. My first real bass was a 78 PBass. I have owned many new and vintage instruments over the years. I currently own a 72 PBass, Fender Bassman 150, Fender Rumble 100 2x10 combo, and the VM Fretless. This is a great mid priced bass guitar with fantastic pick ups and body finish. Nice satin neck and ebanol fretboard. The fret lines are well defined and the tone is punchy. The only downer would be the bridge. It's ok but could be better. This Squier series is a great addition keep up the good work Fender.

This bass does exactly what it has to do.
The neck pickup sounds warm and round and is good in general for the blues, rock and reggae/ska stuff.
The bridge pickup gives an almost spot on Jaco Pastorius sound and is great for the jazz, funk and gospel music.
Both pickups combined gives a great low end sound which gives a Precision bass a run for its money and combined with the tone control this bass is versatile as well as great in some regions.
The playability is amazing, good access across the whole fingerboard.
The tuners are stable and keep the strings in good tune. I've owned mine for nearly ten years now and I only had to tune it a couple of times.
The whole bass screams Jaco Pastorius to me, since his Bass of Doom has the same appearance, but this bass lends itself for other music genres too.
I yet have to find another bass which has the same value, because for this price you can't go wrong.
