This has got to be one of the best value for money musical purchases I have ever made.
Are the pickups brilliant?? No.
Are the tone and volume pots the best?? No.
Are the machine heads fantastic?? No.
BUT........for the price of this instrument it is unbelievable value for money. On my one the neck is straight, the fretwork is better than some basses and guitars costing twice as much or more and with a tiny bit of adjusting the intonation is spot on.
I have already indicated to she-who-must-be-obeyed that the pickups, tone and volume pots and machine heads will be replaced at some stage in the future. Once that is done i will have a fantastic looking, brilliant sounding unbeliveable playing bass that has cost less than $500. You can't ask for much more than that.

I mainly play guitar and I already had a bass. I wanted one a little bit more user friendly, i.e. with a short scale. This bass is light, sound great from the start and like other reviewer mentionned there is room for upgrading pick-ups or other parts. I really enjoy playing this instrument, did I mention it's cheap.

A must have: very light and confortable, I can play it for hours without feeling tired and wrecked. The satin finish on the thin jazz style 30" neck makes it even more fast if possible. The short scale makes it not so solid on lower tunings like C or C#. The pickups do their work, its P/J style makes it very versatile.
I've upgraded mine with two Seymour Duncan SPB4 and SJB3...and now it's roaring.

I have been a bass player for over 15 years and recently purchased this short scale Jag from Squier. It is a super fun little machine. The neck is very much like a mini version of a Jazz Bass and is extremely fast and easy to play... did I mention fun? This beast is such a blast to play. I imagine it would be a fantastic beginner's instrument but it also serves my needs as a more advanced player. The pickups and electronics are fine... no problems here. The Jazz pick up is weak on its own but sounds great when blended with the punchier P-bass pickup. For the price, you simply cannot beat this bass. Mine came extremely well set up and ready to go. The paint looks great and the matching headstock is just too cool. It is a well-crafted, easy playing and good sounding bass. I put all of the extra Jag chrome plates and switches on mine so it looks like a real Jaguar!
Squier has done an amazing job with the SS Jaguar bass and I highly recommend it.

im only 13 so im quite small and not really strong or tall enough to handle a full sized bass so this is perfect. its almost like playing guitar, its so easy to move around the neck. its really worth owning, really happy with mine

This is an excellent bass at a very low, with a few minor flaws. I was immediately impressed by the quality of construction. The nut and routing are perfect, and I couldn't find a flaw in the finish. The body cavities are even coated in a layer of conductive paint to shield the electronics.
There are a few things present to remind you that this is still an entry level bass. The bridge tends to rattle and can become misaligned if you hit a string a certain way. There is no pickup selector, so in order to select a pickup you must use the cheap 250k audio taper alpha pots. The tone knob does very little. The wood is agathis, which has the benefit of being extremely lightweight, but a bit neck heavy as a result.
I routed the body for a Jaguar switch plate with controls to turn off each pickup, and to switch the neck pickup's phase. The cheap, scratchy, out of spec alpha pots were replaced with 500k linear taper CTS pots and the tone knob was eliminated, making room for a kill switch. I plan to add a Leo Quan bridge to replace the flimsy-feeling stock one.
Overall I'm extremely happy with this bass. It's an incredible value and when I want to have fun, I often find myself reaching for it instead of my Gibson Les Paul.

This is my first bass, so the only comparisons I can make are to all the others I tried, but didn't buy. I normally play another instrument and picked this bass up just for fun - and man, did I make the right call there.
I bought it in 2012. It's branded Squier, and says crafted in Indonesia, but don't let that put you off. The finishing on the one I got is top notch.
I like the shorter scale, the light weight, the general looks and shape of it, and the easy playing of this bass. I don't have a single complaint about this bass. It's excellent value for the money.

As a guitar player I really enjoy playing the short scale neck, I love the feel of this bass too, I wish there were some more controls on the bass itself, like it's kin bass.
I use it for church mainly and couple it with a bass pre-amp pedal and an Ampeg BA-108. The control offered with those products can really make this bass sound as versatile as the player desires. I really like it and wouldn't trade it for another bass.

I have this and a full scale vint modified jaguar bass. This one I had first and bought new, the other I found used. This one I like for playing. Light and easy to play. I am a guitar player so the short scale seems more "normal" to me when I play bass. At practice, one of the guitar players thought I sounded like I was playing too high on the neck. The short scale has a more pronounced high end on the bass compared to the long scale jaguar. I mostly use the p pickup vs the bridge j style pickup. Mine seems much deeper in town with the P style. I also picked up a bass eq pedal that made it easy to get the short scale to sound like a much BIGGER bass. My amp only had a few knobs for tone. If yours has an eq, that works too.
