Born in Stamford Ct, Alex Suarez was heavily influenced by his older brothers who were knee deep in the 80's hair metal/Rock scene and grew up listening to all those bands from Metallica to Slaughter. "I got my first guitar at the age of 13 and never thought I would be able to play for a living."
Moving to South Florida shortly after,Suarez played in high school bands with his friends, and did small local shows around the area. At 18 he was in his first touring band Kite Flying Society, a "post hardcore early 90's style emo band ala 400 years, rites of spring and Indian Summer" which had a strong following all over Fla. The band hit the road in the early 2000's doing mostly basement shows around America.
After earning a degree in Culinary Arts he relocated from South Florida to Orlando to pursue his culinary profession, while playing drums in a couple local acts such as Saving Twilight and Ramona Forever and guitar for Kite Flying Society.
Three and a half years later a move to Brooklyn opened up a whole new world for him. In the first few months, high school friend Ryland Blackinton contacted him and they quickly started writing music together as indie pop duo This Is Ivy League. One year later the two joined in the quick birth of Cobra Starship and have toured consistently around the world for the last two and a half years, and are finishing their third studio album at this time.
