Just like the old one

Picked this up last week as I wanted an amp that I could use different speakers with. This amp sounds as good as the original '65. I compared them side by side and the new one actually sounded slightly brighter and the reverb had a deeper sound with a longer decay time. I can use this amp on any type of gig, It's got lots of headroom. With a Strat it doesn't really break up at all but with any type of hum bucker guitar, it starts breaking up around 6, and it has a nice natural warm breakup sound. I own many Fender amps including an original '64 Vibrolux Blackface, and it's the Deluxe I am taking to the gigs.
Nothing else I can say except "good job" Fender.

I owned a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue for several years. I bought it used, and it was a bargain. Good sound, portable, great good looks. Then one day I made the mistake of plugging it into a Weber 15" guitar cabinet I had. The improvement in tone was from good to terrific: much sweeter top, round bottom, present mids. Not long after that, I was approached by the son of a long time friend and playing partner, asking if it were for sale.

I used the Weber speaker with a Bandmaster VM head I owned (also a pretty good amp, but I really didn't use all the features). Then the DRRI head was released and I ordered one.

The tonal flexibility with the 15" speaker is much greater than that of the combo. These days I am playing a '51 Precision reissue in a small combo with a guitarist, percussion and two harmonizing singers. We do pop standards from the '30s to the '70s. The DR head sits on the Weber in my music room, and when we rehearse, the guitarist plugs one of his two 335s into it. This gives me an excellent chance to hear what that little rig will do, and it does a lot: plenty of snap when the material calls for it, mellow jazz tones when those are needed, and never a bad (or even merely good) sound out of it. In my eight years of DR ownership, including the combo, I have never had a single problem. I am not out of the guitar amplifier market!

By the way, the guitarist takes his own small combo (not a Fender) to gigs. Just ain't the same.

Got a deluxe reverb head and I'm delighted with it -a real upgrade from the combo sound and it's really loud and has really good headroom before break up (by then it's so loud it will have welded your face to the wall). It likes my Wampler pedals and delays and is lush and three dimensional, boutique beating cleantone, you couldn't buy a better sounding amp.
